Four-party collaborative selection process: Nobel Committee screens candidates, Nominators submit forms, Experts assess work, and the Nobel Assembly votes and announces laureates.
Each year in September, the Nobel Committee for Medicine sends nomination invitations to approximately 3000 selected Nominators. Nominators submit completed nomination forms. The Nobel Committee performs a first screening and selects preliminary candidates. The Committee then determines whether expert assistance is required. If so, it sends the candidate list to specially appointed Experts, who assess the candidates' work and return assessments. The Committee selects final candidates and their works, and writes a recommendations report. The report is submitted to the Nobel Assembly. The Assembly meets twice: first to discuss nominations, then to select and announce the Nobel Laureates. The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony is held in Stockholm.
