Common Mistakes

Measuring different things across products

Testing competitor products with all users while testing your product with power users. An invalid comparison results. Test the same participant segment for all products.

Not counterbalancing test order

Participants perform better on products tested later due to learning effects. Counterbalance order: some participants test product A first, others test B first.

Setting unrealistic targets

Competitor scores 95% task completion, we score 70%, goal is to reach 95%. Set incremental targets (70% to 80% to 85%) based on identified improvement drivers.
